Don't be fooled by the dark and frosty cover. Read the title! It is a portrait of a "murderer" (not a murder), and the subtitle is "A Christmas Crime Story" (not a mystery). There. Part of my venom stems from the fact that I saved this book for a year, keeping it to read in December, and instead of a juicy whodunit, it was more of a psychological analysis of a murderer, a la Crime and Punishment. We get it. (XXX) feels guilty. Not really fair to pan it, as the author was honest and perhaps I had selfish expectations. But I'm panning anyway! Meh.
