  • A Perfect 'Do

I have loaned this book out so many times, in fact, that the original has gone missing and I had to replace it. Farewell, old friend! I hope someone is treating you well. A great vacation read. Creative, full of hope and laughter in the midst of the realistic bumps that life brings. A song that lingers in your memory long after the music stops.

  • All Aboard!

All manner of travel is addressed in this hilarious book. Perfect for a staycation!

  • Ick

Dirty secrets and dangerous lies abound in this book that lags at times. I found myself wanting to slap the characters. Instead I'll just give the book away.

  • The Other Mary

    Interesting and well-written.

  • Unexpectedly Moving

This is not a book I would have expected to like, but I sure did. It's quick, sweet, and thought-provoking.

  • Who Knew?

Not a page-turner. It is, however, an eye-opening treatise of the dirty convention of slavery from a unique point of view. Worthwhile.

  • Cross-Threaded

I'm giving my lack of sophistication away here, but this book dragged for me. Makes me wonder if anyone said anything coherent back then, or if they spent five minutes on sentences that could be completed in a few words. Blah, blah, blah. And blah. By the time we got to the "scary" part, I didn't care anymore.

  • Offhand

Only John Irving would write a story about a transplanted hand and an ensuing relationship with the donor's widow. Entertaining but not his best work.

  • Eerie

This classic tale is always germane, and like Handmaid's Tale, we wonder if it could actually happen. . . not to disparage the current administration or anything.

  • A Graveyard Smash

Having lived through the heyday of the Greg Kihn Band, I was intrigued to delve into his first book (at least I think it is). It was solely my loyalty to the "Breakup Song" dude that piqued my curiosity as I have never been a fan of campy horror movies, books, or shows. When I received my autographed copy (yes, you read that right) as a gift, I creaked open that first page, and started reading with a side-eye. Well, turns out that Greg can not only hook you with a tune, but with a storyline. Soon I was looking at that book straight on and whipping right through it. Loved it--won't be breaking up with him anytime soon.

  • The Title Says it All

Post-bombing of Hiroshima, "black rain" continued the hellish assault on the remaining populace. I'm not sure such a topic can be considered "good" reading, but it is, indisputably, important reading.

  • A Departure for Pearl

This novel taking place in India was interesting. A dive into another culture.
