  • Smooth As . . .

You'll become far more intrigued with silkworms, eggs, and the fabric they spawn than you ever thought possible. There's also a romance as luxurious as the title promises, and that's about all you need.

  • Breezy Beach Read

This would be a quick airplane, vacation or jury duty book. Nothing deep, but sometimes life just calls for a book like this.

  • Quietly Captivating

This won't keep you reading past your bedtime, but you'll enjoy languidly getting to know the town. An enjoyable step back to a quieter time.

  • Moving, Heroic, Epic

This bigger-than-life story is one for the ages. The Greatest Generation truly was just that. Of course this book has been made into the legendary miniseries of the same name. I can hear the music as I type. Read the book, then watch the miniseries, feel your heart tingle throughout. Still gives me chills.

  • Kate the Great

Love me some Kate Atkinson! If you've enjoyed any of her other books, you'll love this one too.

  • The Birds and the Bees . . . and Barry

Dave puts his stamp on sex ed, and doesn't disappoint. Hilarious and everyone who has kids can relate. Silly and fun!

  • Thought-Provoking

Every parent's worst nightmare comes to life in this fictionalized account of a missing girl and her father's subsequent encounter with God. Gritty, painful, and sometimes doctrinally questionable, it somehow works.

  • Devil May Care

Although I learned a lot about the Farallon Islands, Great White Sharks, and even Jacques Cousteau, I ended up being so angry at the author for her self-serving attitude toward the biologists who were kind enough to allow her to accompany them. Rules, schmules. As long as she got what she wanted, to heck with how it affected them. I kept thinking things would turn around as the book progressed, but alas. Really rubbed me the wrong way.

  • Perhaps the Age of Inertia?

A lot of time is spent on the social mores of the day. If you like watching a bug spin around in a puddle, this might be for you.

  • Settle In

This was a good, informative book, but I found it to be a bit wordy for me. Could have had more interest with less detail.

  • Lend Me Your Ear

Poor Vincent. So much genius and so little mental health care. You'll learn a lot about that poor, tortured soul in this excellent chronicle of his tragic, yet extraordinary life.

  • Inspirational

This collection of vignettes of folks who stood tall for their beliefs is inspiring.
