A poignant portrayal of small-town life during WWII. The main character faces tragedy each day as a telegraph messenger, growing up far too soon.

This is such a classic and pretty much everybody knows about good old Holden and his antics and observations. Only years after reading did I learn that J.D. was a complete weirdo who ignored his daughter horribly.

Drama, lust, intrigue, politics, and of course, the unbelievable talent possessed by one man and envied by many . . . Stone did a great job bringing this story to life. You're there, and feel his passion and angst. 100% recommend.

I've always wanted to like jazz. But never did. I feel like I should, like people with true musical ability and sophistication are jazz lovers. But apparently that's not me. I need a defined tune and some sort of logical progression to the music. I feel the same way about Mark Twain. Was he a genius? Heck, yeah! Have his books made it into the very fiber of our culture? Absolutely! Do I like reading them? Nope. 3 hos because everybody else seems to get it, even if I don't.

What a horrific tale that wasn't fiction to so many. Sinclair's visionary story was a shocking jolt to polite society, and may be germane still.

Robert knew how to peel back the onion. This book can still send shivers up one's spine!

Strange topic, but Steinbeck could sure write. Probably quite salacious in its day, too.

I'm embarrassed to say this was my introduction to the Armenian Holocaust. How did I get all the way through high school and college having never heard of this? Well, this is a feasible telling of this event from the viewpoint of several characters. I connected, and shuddered.
